New York State Seals of Biliteracy and Civic Readiness

Wayne Central School District offers students the opportunity to earn two New York State distinctions that recognize learning extending beyond traditional graduation requirements. The Seal of Biliteracy honors proficiency in English and at least one additional world language, while the Seal of Civic Readiness recognizes students who demonstrate strong civic knowledge, skills, mindsets, and meaningful participation. Both distinctions are noted on a student’s diploma and transcript and highlight accomplishments valued by colleges, employers, and communities.

New York State Seal of Biliteracy

The New York State Seal of Biliteracy recognizes graduates who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English and at least one additional world language. This may include a language studied in school or a language spoken at home. The Seal recognizes the value of multilingualism in college, careers, and an increasingly interconnected world. New York State Seal of Civic Readiness

The New York State Seal of Civic Readiness recognizes graduates who demonstrate a high level of civic knowledge, skills, mindsets, and experiences. Students earn the Seal through a combination of academic learning and meaningful civic participation, which may include research, civic projects, service learning, extracurricular involvement, or work-based learning. The Seal recognizes students’ preparation to make informed decisions, contribute to their communities, and participate responsibly in civic life. Learn more from NYSED.
