School Closing/Emergency Information

School Closing/Emergency Information

In the event of inclement weather or other emergencies that might cause a school closing, information will be posted on the District Home Page, and phone notification will be sent to all parents/guardians through our mass messaging service.  When schools are closed for all or part of a school day, all activities and events scheduled in our buildings are also cancelled for the remainder of the day and evening. Parents are reminded to be sure their children know what they should do if they arrive home to an empty house. This is also a good time to be sure school contact information is up to date with the school offices.

Emergency/Disaster Information:

WCSD has established responses to several emergency situations. The community also plays a role in these responses. Communication is a key factor in assuring that these plans work efficiently. In the event of a community fire or other event that might jeopardize the safety of students in any one building for a short duration, each building has a predetermined evacuation location. The initial response plan calls for each building to evacuate to another of our buildings.

In the event that the entire school district would need to evacuate, children would be bused off-site to community locations including Fire Halls, Town Halls, Recreation Buildings, or home depending on the situation. Further information on the location of our students in such an emergency would be broadcast via local media methods.

In the event that the entire community needed to be evacuated and sending children home was not an option, WCSD has been instructed by the Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA) to evacuate all students to Palmyra-Macedon School District. Students grades K-4 will be bused to the Pal-Mac Middle School, located at 151 Hyde Parkway and students grades 5-12 will be bused to the Pal-Mac High School, located at 151 Hyde Parkway. In the event that this should occur, please DO NOT come to your child’s school to pick them up. Children will be told to expect to meet their family at the end of the bus ride.
