Celebrating Excellence: Three Wayne Central Students Perform at NYSSMA All-State

Wayne Central School District would like to congratulate seniors Courtney B., Leah G., and Lucas H. on their incredible achievement of performing with the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Conference All-State music ensembles from December 4 to 7.
Nearly 900 students participated in the NYSSMA conference. Lucas H. and Courtney B. performed in the All-State Mixed Chorus under the direction of composer/conductor Brandon Boyd from the University of Missouri. Leah G. was selected for the All-State Treble Choir, conducted by Dr. Jennifer Sengin from the University of Missouri–Kansas City.
NYSSMA® is the largest and most successful National Association for Music Education (NAfME) state unit in the country.
More than 100,000 students participate annually in spring adjudication festivals held throughout New York State.
In Spring 2025, over 200 Wayne Central students participated in Levels 1–6.
Each year, approximately 7,000 students audition for the eight All-State performing groups
The mission of NYSSMA is to advance music education throughout New York State for its members and the students in their member school programs.
All-State Selection Process
Selection for the NYSSMA All-State ensembles is a highly rigorous, multi-step process:
Preparation & Adjudication
Students must prepare a Level 6 NYSSMA solo, the most advanced level, and perform it at a local spring solo festival.
All students on the same instrument or voice part must be heard by the same judge.
All students from the same school must attend the same festival.
Students are evaluated on their solo performance, sight-reading, and (for instrumentalists) scales.
Adjudicator Ranking
After each festival, All-State adjudicators rank the performers in their room based on total performance quality
Thank you, Courtney B., Leah G., and Lucas H, for representing the Wayne Central School District with your outstanding talent. Our community is proud of you!
