Fifth Graders Keep the Egg Drop Tradition Alive at Wayne Middle School

More than 100 fifth-grade students at Wayne Middle School put their creativity and engineering skills to the test during the annual Egg Drop event on Monday, June 15, 2026.
A favorite tradition among students and staff, the Egg Drop challenge requires students to design and build a device capable of protecting an egg from breaking when dropped from a designated height. Students spent time planning, creating, and refining their contraptions, using problem-solving and critical-thinking skills throughout the process.
The competition lasted 10 rounds as students eagerly watched to see whether their designs would successfully protect their eggs. Many of the student-built contraptions performed exceptionally well, demonstrating the creativity, innovation, and perseverance of Wayne's fifth graders.
After 10 rounds of competition, 15 students were recognized as winners.
