Wayne Central Student Selected for Advanced National Energy Leadership Program

Wayne Central School District is proud to announce that Rowan Hoffmann, a senior at Wayne Central High School, has been selected to participate in the Advanced Exploration Track of Constellation’s prestigious Youth Energy Summit (YES) for a second consecutive year.
The Constellation Youth Energy Summit, held July 12–17, 2026, at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, brings together high-achieving students from five states: New York, Illinois, Maryland, Texas, and Pennsylvania, who are interested in addressing energy and environmental challenges and exploring careers in STEM and the energy sector. Participation in the program is highly competitive, with selected students engaging in immersive, hands-on learning experiences and collaborating with industry professionals. The program provides full sponsorship, including travel, lodging, and materials, ensuring that students can fully engage in the experience. Participants also receive technology and resources to support their learning throughout the week.
Rowan’s return to the program reflects both a strong commitment to environmental leadership and continued academic excellence. During his first year at the summit, Rowan participated in field experiences including visits to power plants and dams, studied diverse energy sources, and collaborated with peers from across the region to better understand real-world energy challenges.
This year, Rowan will take part in the Advanced Exploration Track, which includes unique opportunities such as attending a Constellation Board meeting and engaging in advanced programming focused on leadership and innovation in energy.
“This is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to Rowan’s curiosity, commitment, and potential,” said Derek DeMass, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction at Wayne Central School District. “Opportunities like the Youth Energy Summit can have a profound impact, opening doors to future pathways in STEM and helping students envision their role in solving real-world challenges.”
The opportunity was initially shared with Rowan by his science teacher, Ms. Clare Morgan, highlighting the importance of strong connections between educators and enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom.
At Wayne Central, Rowan is actively involved in several extracurricular activities, serving as Co-President of the Environmental Club and participating in Master Minds, Media Club, and the National Honor Society.
Looking ahead, Rowan plans to pursue a career in environmental engineering, building on experiences like the Youth Energy Summit to address pressing environmental and energy issues.
Wayne Central School District remains committed to connecting students with meaningful, real-world learning experiences that align with its mission to help all students soar.
