Coaching/Volunteering Requirements
In order to provide quality coaches for secondary school athletes, New York State has established standards required of all coaches, volunteer and paid.
Non-certified teacher & all volunteer coaches must complete the following to coach in New York State:
- Fingerprinting clearance through NYSED. Contact Wayne HR to setup an appointment once hired (315-524-1007)
- CPR/AED/ First Aid Certification *See the related file below on CPR/AED/ First Aid for approved classes.
- Wayne Central will offer a CPR/AED/ First Aid class prior to each season.
- You can also find CPR/AED/ First Aid classes offered at no cost by Section V
- COMBO PACKS for Child Abuse, Violence Prevention & Intervention (SAVE), and DASA as discounted Price Click here
- Child Abuse Course- Click here ($40)
- Violence Prevention & Intervention (SAVE) workshop- Click here ($40) or through Genesee Valley BOCES ($30)
- Completion of the Dignity for All Students Act training (free)- Click Here, or paid options:
- NYSED$40)
- Genesee Valley BOCES($80)
- Completed Temporary Coaches license. Done through NYS TEACH. Renewed annually. Completion of Course Work- two different options. Check out non-teacher requirements link below.
- Completion of the Concussion Management Course (take one of classes below)

No, the district does not pay for or reimburse anyone for taking any of the New York State coaching courses.

Opportunities and requirements for former students are the same as those for any volunteers. These requirements are mandated by the New York State Education Department.
